Plovdiv

large_938978_13466786682889.jpgIt was my first time in Bulgaria so i had no idea what to expect. First city we visited was Plovdiv. We would stay here for 3 days, because of friends who were getting maried here.

Plovdiv is also one of the oldest cities in Europe. We decided that we wanted to see at least a bit. The day we arrived we had an organised dinner, and the day after the wedding, so we figured the best day would be the day after that one. The wedding was beautiful, it was great to be part of it. Only thing was it was the hottest day that year...40 degrees C. I really felt sorry for the couple and all the men in suits....

Old Plovdiv was about 15 minutes away from our hotel, so we decided to walk.

Old Plovdiv has really small streets compared to 'new' Plovdiv. But it gives a cozy feeling, hard to explain. It justs breaths old... We walked through several streets, and found our way to the ancient theatre. It is quite a climb! It only goes up through the small streets (all cobblestones so watch your step). Along the way there are small shops everywhere. Also the Academy for arts is located there. we walked past a few churches and ended up at the church where we were the prvious day...we didn't know it until we passed it though. From there on we went to the city centre and had lunch at Happy Bar & Grill. You should try it, not expensive and delicious food. And the sushi is awesome!
